Event Details

Varanasi Junction is an art vernissage as well as an Indian cultural theme weekend held in Kista underground bazaar, in the northern suburb of Stockholm. Varanasi Junction is a meeting place that gives visitors a sensory journey to the holy city in India. Varanasi, also known as Benaras, is the oldest city in India and is called the spiritual capital of the country. As such, Varanasi is teeming with history, heritage, chaos and colour. In the city, one can observe the rituals of life and death taking place on the banks of the river Ganges, creating an overwhelming journey of sights, sounds and smells.

The artist Elin Thorsén exhibits her photos, painting and other artwork, inspired by traditional cultural interactions from the swarming Varanasi.  Guest lecturers Willy Pfändtner and Stig Lundgren  will speak about about hinduism, pilgrimages and the holy city as a concept. Both adults and children are welcome to our workshops, where you can write your name in Devnagari (the Hindi script) and create your own art.  There will be Indian food and chai in the underground bazaar  – once you step down the flight of stairs you will be in Varanasi with all your senses, only on April 26th and 27th. Opening hours are 11-19. Travel by metro t-Bana to Kista, only 20 minutes from Stockholm City.

Entry fee 50 kr.

Hosted by Sydasien and Svensk-Indiska föreningen. Welcome!
