In 2023, we mark the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between India and Sweden. This significant milestone inspires the focus of the 10th India Sweden Innovation Day: leveraging our areas of strength and driving green growth to achieve a net-zero future. With India leading the G-20 Presidency and Sweden having recently held the EU Presidency, we recognize a tremendous opportunity to accelerate our partnership for a sustainable future.

The India Sweden Innovation partnership is built on a shared commitment to driving prosperity and tackling global challenges like climate change and sustainable development through innovation. Guided by the principles of co-funding, co-development, and co-creation, we aim to harness our complementary strengths for mutual benefit. This partnership builds upon the Joint Statement issued by our Prime Ministers in Mumbai in 2016, the Joint Action Plan agreed in Stockholm in 2018, and the India Sweden Virtual Summit held on March 5, 2021.

India stands as the world’s 5th largest economy, poised for further growth. To address the challenges associated with creating a sustainable life enabled by technology and benefiting all citizens, India needs innovative technological solutions with a profound impact on its vast population. Meanwhile, Sweden, ranked as the top country for innovation in the European Union, excels in sustainability, innovation, R&D, and leading the 4th Industrial Revolution and Globalization 4.0. The synergies between our nations hold tremendous potential for shaping a sustainable future.

Can India and Sweden forge even closer collaboration to address pressing global issues while achieving our immediate goals and commitments on the path to net zero? How can we accelerate the sustainable and equitable green transition while pursuing economic growth for both countries? In this crucial moment, our priority lies in adopting and securing technologies and solutions that have a sustainable and transformative impact on humanity. This includes sustainable energy, safe and efficient transport, world-class sustainable infrastructure, and ensuring safety, security, and an improved quality of life.

Our response is a resounding call to action, urging the acceleration of innovative solutions by harnessing the power of technology and digitalization for green growth transition. Following the Innovation Day, a networking event will provide further opportunities for collaboration and exchange.
