Sweden and India have a long tradition of cooperation in the field of health. From a cooperation based on development aid, the collaboration has evolved to a more dynamic and mutually beneficial alliance. Sweden has a lot to offer India when it comes to organizing healthcare be it creating a system for healthy mothers and babies, offering universal coverage to its population or care of the elderly. India is also emerging as a hub for cost-effective R & D and clinical trials. Could Indian and Swedish companies collaborate to find solutions in some important areas of healthcare that may be neglected such as infectious diseases like TB etc?
Another important area that is beginning to be explored globally is the benefits to patients of combining the results of progress of modern medicine with the proven practices of India’s many traditional systems of medicine, especially Ayurveda, based on a holistic approach to health.
