Skill development is being given a priority by the Indian Government with a hope that Skill India Mission will supply huge human resource not only in India but also Internationally. By 2020, the average age in India will be 29 years making it the world’s youngest country with 64 per cent of the population in the working age group. India’s vision is to make itself as the skill capital of the world, and hopes to reach a target of skilling 500 million people by 2022.
Indian government data shows that just about 15% of women participate in urban workforce. This is often due to lack of skills, looking after family and not being able to work full time. There is an urgent need to train more women to ensure they are economically independent and empowered.
Can we look at ICT, Technology, semi skill development centers and other ways to skill up women in India? What role can Swedish companies play in being part of this development? can we see the figure change to 50% in the next 30 years?
