This unique 24-hour hackathon will bring Swedish and Indian university students together to rethink problems and inspire innovation in areas of common interest. The Hackathon will begin with a general presentation of the overarching event itself and suggest stimulating group work topics—from smart cities to connected citizens, from farming to healthcare—which the students can tackle in their group work. The participants will then have the opportunity to present their own plans and form teams based on individual interests and skills. The most innovative ideas will be awarded with a prize.

India understands it has a problem with pollution and is eager to tackle this problem going forward. This is an important reasons for the Indian Governments interest in Scania’s work on biofuels and sustainable transport systems. Swedfund and Scania has now entered into a partnership to produce biofuel from sludge in the city of Nagpur. Nagpur is the pilot city for testing sustainable transport systems and a part of the Indian Governments Smart Cities project.

India is the 7th largest country in the world covering an area of 3.5 million square km and has a population of 1.2 billion. According to 2011 census figures, 30 percent of India’s population lives in urban areas and the rate of urbanization is growing steadily due to the push/pull effects of employment opportunities and the declining viability of the agricultural sector. This in addition to the fact that India now has the 4th largest economy in the world – $4.463 trillion (2011 est.), has resulted in a large and growing movement of goods, services, and people fueled by trade and employment opportunities – almost all of which is powered by fossil fuels.

The increase in emissions form traffic along with inadequate infrastructure facilities is responsible for high levels of local pollutants and GHGs in several of these cities. With the growing air pollution and GHG emissions from the transport sector in cities and at the national level, regulatory agencies will have to find real solutions, especially in terms of managing traffic in cities and freight at the national level.

The City of Nagpur, State of Maharashtra in India, have been appointed a pilot city for solutions to handle urban transport and mobility.

As part of this Scania and Swedfund has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for construction of a biogas plant in the city. The MOU envisions that a biogas plant, creating biogas fuel from waste, will be set up. The biogas will be utilised to run the vehicles, especially city buses.

Current global urbanisation trends will result in 70% of the population living in cities by 2050, and given the increasing social and environmental challenges, it is imperative that we learn how best to develop, govern and manage integrated and sustainable cities. The new Indian government 2014 launched the initiative to build 100 Smart cities all across India. In 2015 the first Smart cities will be identified and receive funding. Sweden is one of the pioneering countries when it comes to developing Smart cities based on collaboration between private and public actors. Business Sweden continuously monitor how Swedish companies are working with their distributors in India. During 2014, they conducted a more in-depth study on swedish companies working through distributors. They were asked how they set up the network, and how they are work to manage it. The result shows some unique insights in best practices in India. Some of the insights from this report follows below and will be presented by Mr Gustav Wennerholm, Head of Business Sweden Bangalore.

– During the last 5 years, 20% of the companies have increased their turnover by 30% per year, while 50% remain on 2009 year level. What makes the successful different?

India Unlimited 2016 will kick off with its third Indian film festival, Cinema Indian, running April 21–24, 2016. This festival will be held in the heart of Stockholm at SF Sture in cooperation with SF BIO and with support from the Indian National Film Development Corporation. The film program spans across numerous genres, ranging from current blockbusters to regional Indian film. Cinema Indian’s program is poised to challenge the notion that Indian cinema is nothing more than Bollywood films bursting with song and dance. A gala dinner will be hosted by the president of Elite Hotels, Bicky Chakraborty, to celebrate all of the Indian actors and directors being flown in to guest the festival.

Babi Nobis is also the Honorary Consul at the Swedish Consulate in Kolkata, India.

Vivek Narayanan was born in India in to Tamil-speaking parents and grew up in Zambia. He did undergraduate and graduate study (in cultural anthropology and creative writing) in the United States, taught at the University of Kwazulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa, and moved back to India in 2000.  His two books of poetry are Universal Beach and Life and Times of Mr. S. His poems appear in several recent anthologies including The Harper Collins Book of English Poetry. In addition to publishing poetry, Narayanan has conducted experiments with technology, performance, physical space, movement, site-specific poetry, and audience interaction through a series of collaborations with other artists. He earned a master’s degree in cultural anthropology from Stanford University and a master’s in creative writing from Boston University.

Yoga We invite all the different Yoga centers and Yoga studios ,their teachers and students, in fact all Stockholmers, children & adults to come and participate in the grand Yoga Event. It is amazing how Yoga has become mainstream in Sweden. We will this day highlight and inform Stockholmers / Swedes of Yoga’s ancient roots and its Indian heritage and that is why we have chosen to do the Event at the most beautiful location of Stockholm – Kungsträdgården. The idea is to spread the yoga mats around the pool of water and make the magic of Yoga come alive! We also hope to provide yoga classes for beginners , for children and the elderly. New and modern expressions of yoga will also be shown. Indian Cuisine   In addition to Yoga we will show the wonderful diversity of Indian cuisine. Stockholm has approximately 130 Indian restaurants, but most of them have the same fare of cuisine. It would be wonderful to showcase food of the different regions of India like Bengali, Tamilian, Malayalee, Maharashtrian, Punjabi, Gujarati & other regions. This can be a real WOW experience for Stockholmers. Here we would like to invite all the Indian associations in Sweden/Stockholm to come and showcase their regional cuisine. We will have 10 market stands, that will be given for free to associations. Indian Restaurants and commercial food caterers will also be welcome. Travel & tourism, Artcrafts  In addition we also invite Travel and Tourism operators to set up stall and sell their India destination packages. Design and Crafts to promote Indian designs and craftmanship. This day will take you on a journey to India through its food, dance, music, films and literature, its people and beautiful locations. It aims to shed light on the misgivings that surround India, creating more understanding and knowledge for Swedish people to travel to India. So we bring to you a very interesting mix of all three forms of dances on the 23rd of May running through the day. Fashion A fashion show will be held during this day where young fashion designers from India and Sweden will present their creations. A fusion of two worlds will be shown in the most compelling and amusing way with help of colors, tissues and most importantly the imaginations and inspirations of these young designers. Musical performance Meditation and explosion. Improvisation and tradition. Rhythm variations, sounds, speed – a rich interaction with the music of Indian West Bengal. Compositions and graceful movements originating from centuries-old musical and dance tradition. An exclusive music and dance performance and a meeting between Indian and Western traditions. One of the key projects identified by the new Indian government is to Clean Up India. The Prime Minister has initiated the Swaccha India ie Clean India Campaign. It would be fantastic with a demonstration of this on the 23rd of May where we will also invite some of the top politicians and celebrities along with our partners to make a statement on cleanliness and sustainability for a healthier planet.

Eva Kumlin, CEO of Svensk Form and Form Magazine, will be hosting Design Night goes Indian, an informal and fun gathering of designers, photographers, and other creative minds. Pecha Kucha is a presentation style, in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each. On this occasion, Pecha Kucha will be showcasing Indian design, art and architecture.

With a selection of contemporary design objects, studio Design Temple, traces parallel inspirations from India’s past to display the ingenuity of this 5000–year-old civilization.

The art of everyday life from India’s past highlights a synthesis of form, function and material that is embedded into the evolution of their design, over hundreds of years. As an integral part of everyday life, objects act as cultural conveyors. And this visual dialogue between the old and new, throws light on India’s people and their way of life.

During the first day of the film festival we will be privileged to see an incredible photo exhibition of tigers photographed by Babi Nobis. He is a wildlife photographer based in Kolkata, India. After 30 years on the safari in both Africa and India he has put together an incredible collection called On Safari: the Tiger and the Baobab Tree. He has won the overall silver medal for his picture “Leopard with kill” at FIAP Nature Biennial World Cup in Paris in 2010. Babi Nobis is also the Honorary Consul at the Swedish Consulate in Kolkata, India.

India Unlimited 2015 kicks off with the launch of the second Indian film festival, Cinema Indien/Indian Cinemas, held in collaboration with SF BIO it will take place at SF Sture, Stockholm from the 7th-10th of May with the support of the Indian National Film Development Corporation. Covering different genres, this is a selection that offers current blockbusters to regional Indian films. Cinema Indien 2015 is set to challenge the popular notion that Indian cinema is nothing more than song-and-dance Bollywood films.
